1. To coordinate scientific activities related to the carbon cycle in Mexico
2. To coordinate research related to the carbon cycle and to promote academic training in priority areas.
3. To set up joint networks and programs with other national and international programs.
4. To develop database systems.
5. To promote community development through applied research and to transfer this knowledge to society.
6. To promote the participation in the PMC of all governmental institutions (secretariats) in issues related to climate change.
7. To assist in the design of public policy aimed at tackling, and adapting to, climate change.
